Demo 2: Demonstration of biological markers as meat quality control tools
The results of Module V “molecular quality control” should be demonstrated to the industry. Module V is identifying biomarkers associated with different expressions of genes (mRNA) and proteins that predict meat quality traits e.g. water holding capacity etc. Demonstration events on these biological markers will be organised with the aim to encourage SMEs to use Q-PorkChains results for further development or the implementation into the market (e.g. development of a rapid test based on biological markers to predict pork quality traits).
Demonstration activities within Demo Chain 2 in collaboration with Module V:
During the final conference of Q-PorkChains in Palma de Mallorca, Spain (27th- 28th of October 2011) a workshop with the main view on biomarkers took place. The workshop was organized in collaboration with Demonstration Chain 2 (Module A). The topic was specifically on biomarkers – its definition, use and application into the industry.
Contributing speakers were three members of the Demo Chain, respectively Module V. For an intensive discussion also industrial partners have been invited. Hence, experts in several fields had the possibility to discuss and to exchange ideas and experiences. All in all, 50 people attended the workshop.
The team of the second demonstration chain consists of the following partners:
